Armenian Ambassador in Tehran, H.E. Mr. Artashes TOUMANIAN, and the accompanying delegation visited the Library, Museum and Documentation Center of the Iranian Parliamentary and came together with Hojjatoleslam Seyyed Ali Emad, the director of the Library and the Library’s managers and staff on Wednesday, on 17 April 2019.
Armenian Ambassador was warmly welcomed by the head of the Library first and then Emad outlined various aspects of cooperation with the Parliamentary Library and said that because of its capacity, the Parliamentary Library can have good and varied fields of communication with Armenia.
First, it is a Parliamentary Library and mainly serves Iranian Parliament and can have a cultural link with the Armenian Parliament and the Parliamentary Library of Armenia, which certainly Mr. Toumanian can provide the grounds for this cultural connection.
Second, there are printed books and excellent rare and old books, manuscripts particularly documents in the Majles Library, especially over 12 million documents including documents related to the communications between Iran and Armenia. With these resources and capacities, I hope we can expand our cultural ties with Armenia.
After the Parliamentary Library head’s speeches, Armenian ambassador expressed his readiness and satisfaction to expand the cultural relationship between Iran and Armenia. He said that Iran and Armenia, for at least the last 150 years, have had good relations with each other due to their neighborhood and cultural similarities and have a long history of friendship, but unfortunately we do not know each other in depth and deeply, and for deepening communication, having a deep mutual understanding is crucial.
He assessed the joint meeting with the Head of the Parliamentary Library very well and expressed readiness for cross-cultural and scientific communication, and “we also have rich libraries and archives in Armenia. We need to carefully evaluate common areas of cooperation and exchange of this information and resources," he said.
The Armenian ambassador also invited the head of the Majlis Library to visit the rich library resources of the country and said: "For Iranian scholars and researchers there are good resources in Armenian libraries."
Hojjatoleslam Emad welcomed the invitation of the Honorable Ambassador, outlining some areas of the Library of Parliament's relationship with Armenia:
Holding joint exhibitions on National Day of Armenia and Victory Day of the Islamic Republic of Iran;
To Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Parliamentary Library and the Armenian Embassy which the Memorandum of Understanding was exchanged between the parties in 2012, but has not yet been signed.
Also, several domestic and international specialized journals are being published by the Majles library in the fields of codicology, manuscripts, documents and documentary heritage. The most important collections of manuscripts and documents can be published in the Library journals and through which Armenian and Iranian scholars can get to know each other more. It is even suggested to publish a special issue dedicated to the introduction of Armenian manuscripts and documents as well as the introduction of Armenian researchers.
The Armenian ambassador expressed his satisfaction with the proposals of the Head of the Parliamentary Library and asked him whether or not Armenian scholars could use the manuscripts of the Parliamentary Library, which was welcomed by the Head of the Parliamentary Library.
In the end, he was awarded a copy of the valuable book "From the Alphabet to the Arts"( از الفبا تا هنر), Introduction of Common Calligraphies From Beginning until now & Calligraphic Templates, to further familiarize the Armenian Ambassador with one of the Iranian arts.
