Parliament Speaker Underlines Regional Cooperation
Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani underlined the necessity of cooperation among the regional states for the establishment of peace and security in the region. Speaking at a meeting with Pakistani Minister of Population Welfare Firdous Ashiq Awan here in Tehran, Larijani said that regional countries with common historical roots and a history of lasting democracy should have further cooperation in the field of security in order to help restore peace and security to the region. He added that foreign forces presently in the region are not after restoration of peace and security. The Iranian official pointed to the latest terrorist attacks in Pakistan, and reiterated that "Attacks have become an excuse for foreign powers to meddle in the regional affairs." Elsewhere, Larijani voiced Tehran's continued support for flood-hit Pakistani nation, and stressed that Tehran would spare no efforts to help the government and people of Pakistan to cope with the disaster. Pakistani minister, for her part, thanked Iran's support for Pakistan and added that Iran was among the first three countries which rushed to Pakistan's aid after floods devastated large parts of the country.
