Baharestan Palace

Sepahsalar wanted to change the appearance of Tehran and make it more attractive. So, he ordered to build some beautiful houses at Baharestan Garden including Baharestan Palace. The Palace is currently called Constitution Building or the Building of National Consultative Assembly. The building was the seat of the Parliament for 72 years from 1906 to 1979.

The Building consists of some beautiful rooms and corridors. Now some parts of the building are dedicated to the Museum of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, formal ceremonies and various conferences and meetings.

In general, the area of Baharestan land is 53 thousand square meters, and for the construction of Baharestan mansions, help and idea of famous builders and architects including Mirza MahdiKhan Momtahen al-Dowlah Shaqaqi was indispensible. Most likely, the construction of the Baharestan Palace was completed in 1872.

Iranian architects were able to combine traditional Iranian architecture with Western architecture with special elegance. But unfortunately, this beautiful building fired three times in 1882, and 1931 and 1994. All three of these fires took place in Iranian month “Azar” meaning fire. Once again, it was bombed in 1908.

After the death of the Sepahsalar in1881, Naser-al-Din Shah as the government took possession of the Garden and Palace without any legal and religious procedures. The Garden and its mansions have been considered as governmental assets and used for formal ceremonies from then on. Then, Baharestan Palace was considered as the seat of the Parliament for 72 years from 1906 to 1979.

As it said above it is dedicated to the Museum of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, formal ceremonies and various conferences and meetings at the present time.
